Best Jewelry Glue for Pearls

Glue isn’t actually holding the pearls onto the jewelry. The knot, wire, pin, or finding is doing the hard work. The glue’s job is just to stop things from working loose over time and causing you drama six months down the line.
As someone who uses a lot of pearls in my jewelry, I’ve tested my fair share of glues over the years. Some dry too quickly, some go stringy, some cloud the pearls, and some seem determined to spread themselves onto places they shouldn’t!
For most pearl jewelry projects, what you need is a glue that dries clear, stays flexible, and gives you enough working time to position everything properly before it sets.
Where Should You Use Glue With Pearls?
A small amount of glue can be useful for:
- Securing knots when pearl knotting
- Reinforcing silk or cord ends before attaching clasps
- Helping prevent knots from loosening over time
- Certain bead cap or finding applications where extra security is needed
The important word here is tiny amount.
One of the most common mistakes beginners make is assuming more glue equals more strength. But, excess glue usually creates visible blobs, stiff knots, and a finish that looks less professional.
My Experience
When I first started making jewelry, I treated glue a bit like insurance. If a tiny amount was good, surely a generous amount was even better?
It really wasn’t!
I quickly discovered that the neatest, strongest jewelry pieces often use the least glue. These days I apply it with the tip of a pin, cocktail stick, or fine applicator rather than squeezing directly from the bottle.
The result is cleaner, neater, and far less likely to leave shiny residue around your beautiful pearls.
My Recommended Pearl Glue
If you’re looking for one glue that consistently performs well, GS Hypo Cement is still my go-to recommendation.

It’s been a favourite among jewelry makers for years:
- Precision applicator tip
- Dries clear
- Doesn’t become brittle
- Strong but flexible bond
- Easy to control in tiny amounts
Could you make jewelry without it? yes.
Would I want to? Probably not 😬
Tiny Tip
The difference between a professional-looking finish and a homemade-looking finish is often not the glue you choose.
It’s how little of it you use.
If people can see the glue, you’ve used too much.
