Tiny Tip: listen up – it’s pure gold!

Tiny but impactful jewellery tips from jewel & i

When I first started making jewellery, I thought I knew exactly what people wanted, (I so didn’t!). It wasn’t until years later that I really, really started listening – to reviews, emails, and those offhand customer comments, alongside bespoke requests and tiny, thoughtful customer suggestions. That’s when my business truly began to grow.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve learned that your customers will tell you everything (and I mean everything) you need to know: what to make next, what to improve, what to drop, what little accent to add to a piece, what little improvements to make. Sometimes it was a mum emailing to ask for a St. Christopher bracelet for her daughters Christening (so I designed one!) and introduced it into my collection. Sometimes it was a reviewer saying the clasp was too fiddly (so I changed it). Other times, it was seeing the same question pop up over and over again in emails – and turning it into a new product, a new product card, or even a new product collection.

Some of that feedback stings at first – no one likes to hear that something isn’t working – but it’s pure gold for building a business that actually serves the people buying from you. My seven-figure jewellery brand was built on simply listening… and then doing something about what I heard.

What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve ever received — or given?
Leave a comment, I’d love to hear it!
