How I store my jewelry making items

I don’t know if this happens in the States, but in the UK the moment we roll into January 1st, the supermarkets and DIY stores unleash their storage products.
Like storage has its own season. Right up there with Halloween and Valentine’s Day.

It’s Storage Time, everyone!

So naturally, we’re joining in. New year, new storage.

These are the storage pieces I reach for every single day – nothing fancy, just things that actually work in my studio that I thought I would share during our ‘Storage Season’…

1. Metal Mobile Cart

This glorious thing is ridiculously handy. I first spotted one at my hairdresser’s and had an immediate I need that moment.

Metal beats plastic every time – sturdier, more solid, and this cart holds way more than you think. It’s easy to put together, the hooks are perfect for chains, and the little brakes on the wheels are oddly satisfying.

Ideal for daily-use tools you want to grab and go. And just to really seal the deal… it comes in eight very cute colours. >>>

2. Plastic Drawer Storage Cabinet

I’ve had these for years and still love them. Easy access, clear visibility – no boxes inside boxes, no unnecessary faff. You can actually see what you’ve got without opening 64 lids.

For me, visibility is everything when it comes to storage. These cabinets come in different tub sizes too, so slightly bigger bits don’t end up homeless! >>>

3. Craftelier or WHAM Organizer Boxes

These boxes from Craftelier are great. And yes, I am that person about storage. I can’t deal with boxes with those flimsy inner movable walls that slide about pretending to be helpful, and quietly betray you.

Give it a few weeks and suddenly your seed beads are fraternising with your jump rings and everything’s merged into one chaotic mess.

These don’t do that. Solid dividers. No drifting. No mingling. Just contained beads behaving themselves. Which, frankly, is all I ask 🤗

Clear lids, stackable, no rummaging. The Craftelier boxes are a US-only affair, sadly. But in the UK, these WHAM boxes from Amazon are my go-to – I’ve got loads of them, and for good reason.

I have larger versions for my sterling silver findings, one for yellow gold findings and one for rose gold findings, very indulgent!

And my jump rings, they get their very own dedicated WHAM box.

4. Charm Organiser Book

This little thing is one of those why-didn’t-I-buy-this-sooner items. I stack them neatly like books (very civilised), and because everything’s visible at a glance, there’s no rummaging, swearing, or emptying three boxes just to find one tiny charm you simply flip through. It has over 60 slots with airtight pockets, so everything has a home. It’s surprisingly cheap, wildly practical, and perfect for earrings, charms… and yes, I even have one dedicated entirely to initial charms. Because obviously that needed’s its own charm book… right? >>>

5. Vintage or Quirky Style Decor

I love vintage. Properly love it. So my studio is very much a mishmash of old and new – sensible, practical storage mixed with a generous sprinkling of vintage or vintage style assorted treasures. I always have copious amounts of old teacups, saucers and little bowls dotted about, quietly holding beads and findings while looking far prettier than they have any right to. I just love seeing them. They make the studio feel like mine – slightly impractical, but full of character. My favourite place for this kind of glorious clutter is Charity Stores, oh and Anthropologie. Long-time fan. Fully committed Anthro hoarder. No regrets. 🥰

6. Sticker Holder

I own far more labels than any one person reasonably needs. These sticker holders (an Amazon find from years ago) are honestly one of my best studio buys. Perfect for roll labels or thermal packing labels, easy to grab and go – and they come in seven very yummy colours…which absolutely matters! >>>

7. Desk Caddy

I’m not a handbag girl – I’m a tool girl 🤭 (which I realise makes me sound alarmingly like my husband). I love a good collection of tools, and I love them even more when they’re properly organised. This is the one that finally stuck: the GINKGO Stackable Organizer Caddy. I use mine to store tools I don’t need every second of the day, and keep my daily go-tos in my wooden desk grab holder.

Like a Gucci handbag, it comes in six delicious on-trend colours – oddly collectible, and unlike most handbags, actually holds pliers! 🙌 >>>

8. What I’ve Tried, Tested & Rejected

Storage that needs decanting ❌
Boxes within boxes…so annoying if making daily! ❌
Anything opaque so you can’t see your bits! ❌

Stay organised!
